Many people do not know how much sleep do I need as sleep is a key factor for your health. Sleep is necessary for your body to function properly and maintain your health. You can severely damage your body and your brain by not getting enough sleep. No matter how busy your life is you should make an effort to get plenty of sleep.

Your brain needs sleep in order to recover and function properly. Your brain was not built to be awake all the time. It needs time to recover and recuperate from the day. When you sleep your body also will put everything it can into fighting sickness and fixing injuries. You need to think of sleep as a way to complete recharge your body, like a battery needs to be recharged.

How much sleep you need to function will vary depending on your health. Many studies have shown that your brain will have issues such as a lower attention span and a reduced memory when you get less than seven hours of sleep each night. These studies were very carefully controlled and done on healthy adults.

A lack of sleep will reduce your memory as well as lower your attention span. So it pays to make sure that you sleep well. All of the research that has been conducted on this was done on healthy adults.

Sleep deprivation has also been found to be very unhealthy as it can raise your blood pressure, have abnormal activity in the nervous system and impair your glucose tolerance. Sleep deprivation does have long term health effects. The studies on this impairments is not extensive as it is dangerous to keep humans tired for long periods of time.

Not getting enough sleep can also affect other parts of the body in adverse ways as sleep deprivation will raise your blood pressure and affect your nervous system. You also are not as alert and this can lead to more accidents which can result in injury and even death. Sleep is very important and you should sleep until you fell rested.
